Transforming your house into an energy-efficient Healthy Home™
Wired for a Better Tomorrow: Whole Home Electrification Explained blog header image
January 31, 2024

As many homeowners in Northern Westchester and Putnam counties are looking for ways to both save on their energy bills and lower their carbon footprint, electrification has become a trending topic.

Electrification is the process of switching your home’s equipment and appliances to electricity instead of fossil fuel burning ones. Not only is this process better for the environment by reducing your carbon emissions, but it also improves the energy efficiency and health of your home as well. At Healthy Home Energy & Consulting, we are green energy solution specialists, and can help you prepare your home for electrification with home performance upgrades and all-electric heat pump installation.

Home Electrification Benefits

  • Healthier indoor air: By removing the combustion-powered appliances in your home, you’re also removing your risk of carbon monoxide leaks and other harmful pollutants. This will leave your home with improved indoor air quality.

  • Energy savings: Today’s electric HVAC equipment and appliances are designed for energy efficiency and built to last. You’ll notice a significant decrease in your energy bills throughout the year, especially when paired with home performance upgrades.

  • More home comfort: When you convert your home to run on electricity, you’ll notice more consistent heating and cooling.

How to Electrify Your Home

There are many steps to achieving a fully electrified home, and Healthy Home Energy & Consulting can help guide you through the process.

There are some home electrification upgrades that we don’t perform, like panel upgrades, heat pump water heater installation, and kitchen appliance installation, but we can help determine what your home needs during a Healthy Home Evaluation. During this in-depth look into your home’s performance, we’ll analyze your home’s performance and determine if any improvements need to be made before you begin the process of electrification.

Insulation & Air Sealing

In order to fully experience the benefits of electrification, it’s important to prevent energy waste through poor insulation and air leaks. As energy efficiency specialists, we can provide effective insulation and air sealing solutions to keep your home comfortable and your electric systems operating at peak performance.

By upgrading your home insulation and sealing gaps and cracks that allow air to escape and infiltrate your home, you may even lower its heating and cooling load. This means you can install a smaller HVAC system without sacrificing efficiency or comfort.

Heat Pump Installation

More than half of a home’s energy usage is used for heating and cooling, which makes it one of the most important electrification upgrades you can make. At Healthy Home Energy & Consulting, we install both ducted heat pumps and ductless mini split systems—both of which can help you meet your home electrification goals.

Ducted heat pumps use electricity to transfer heat in or out of your home, depending on where it’s needed, to provide whole-home comfort. Not only are they some of the most energy efficient HVAC systems on the market today, but they can be used all year round—even in the frigid winters we see here in Westchester and Putnam counties.

Mini split heat pumps utilize this same technology without the need to connect to a central duct system. Instead, air handlers are placed in different areas throughout your home to deliver warm or cool air. Each handler can be set to its own temperature, providing zoned comfort and optimal comfort for everyone in your family.

Incentives for Electrification

Electrification helps reduce your home’s environmental impact and provides energy savings that can take pressure off of the local utility grid. This is why these home upgrades are eligible for incentives, like tax credits and rebates. Our team makes sure to stay informed on what incentives are available in our service area. Here are a few that are on our radar:

  • Comfort Home Program rebates up to $4,000 for eligible home upgrades

  • 25C federal tax credits covering 30% of the total cost of heat pump installation and insulation & air sealing materials, up to $3,200 in total every year!
